Is the Performing Group Right for You? A Family Questionnaire

We want every dancer to find the program that best supports their goals and their love of dance. The Performing Group replaced our competition team and is designed for dancers who want to take their training seriously, focus on skill building, and work together as a team toward performances.

Joining is exciting, but it’s also hard work and a commitment.

Before signing up, we encourage families to use this questionnaire as a way to talk through what being part of the group really means.

Family Questionnaire

Why do you want to join?

  • What excites you about being part of the Performing Group?

  • Is it about learning more dance skills, being on stage, being with friends, or something else?

Commitment to Attendance

  • Weekly attendance is very important. Are you ready to prioritize rehearsals and performances, even when you’re busy or tired?

  • How would you handle a conflict with another activity or event?

Teamwork & Etiquette

  • This group is about dancing as a team. How do you show respect and focus in rehearsal?

  • What do you do if you’re feeling distracted, frustrated, or upset during class?

Performance Goals

  • What part of performing on stage do you enjoy most?

  • What’s something you want to work toward as a performer this year?

Effort & Growth Mindset

  • Are you ready to be challenged to push past your comfort zone?

  • How do you accept and apply corrections?

Skill Building

  • What’s one technical skill or artistry goal you’d like to improve by the end of the season?

Responsibility

  • Being in this group means arriving prepared, with the right attitude and focus. Do you feel ready to take on that responsibility?

Dress Code

  • Performing Group rehearsals require dancers to follow a professional dress code: black dancewear and cleanly slicked-back hair. How will you commit to arriving prepared and upholding this standard each week?

Family Support

  • As a parent/guardian, how will you support your dancer in meeting these expectations (transportation, encouragement, scheduling)?

We hope this questionnaire helps families make the choice that feels right for them, and that every dancer who joins feels ready to step in with focus, excitement, and commitment.

There is no fee to join the Performing Group. Instead, families are encouraged to support the LPD Scholarship Fund, which provides opportunities for dancers who might not otherwise be able to participate. All contributions are gratefully received, and we encourage families to give generously in the spirit of this program.
